CEO Pay How much California’s top executives make
The chief executives of California’s 100 largest companies were paid nearly $1.2 billion last year, taking home compensation packages of cash, stock and benefits worth an average of $11.4 million. Four of the five highest-paid executives on the list are from Silicon Valley firms.

Sources: The list was compiled by Equilar, an executive compensation solutions firm, drawing on 2015 fiscal-year proxy statements filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission by June 8. Total compensation was calculated by adding base salary, discretionary and performance-based cash bonuses, the grant-date fair value for stock and option awards during the fiscal year, the annual change in accumulated pension benefits, above-market earnings from deferred compensation plan balances and other compensation, including perquisites. All data was drawn from summary compensation tables reported to the SEC. Pay disparity information is based on a Times analysis of data from FactSet Reseach Systems and the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
